President and Managing Partner
Alberto Martín-Soberón founded Investar in 2000. Before migrating to the Dallas area in 1997, he was CEO of Grupo Soriana, where he successfully co-led the merger with Organización Soriana, that resulted in the formation of the second largest retailer in Mexico. Alberto was Managing Director of Grupo INVERMEXICO, a Mexico City brokerage house and financial services institution. Alberto is board member of Soriana and Maxcom Telecomunicaciones, and formerly of Grupo IXE and NAFINSA, among others. Alberto has a degree in Accounting and an Engineering degree in Information Technology from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.
CEO and Managing Partner
Christian is Managing Partner at Investar Financial since 2005. Christian leads Investar's US Real Estate portfolio and lower middle market private equity investments. Christian is a member of the Investment Committee and Board member of most of Investar's portfolio companies. During his tenure, Investar Financial has invested in different real estate asset classes such as multifamily, industrial, commercial, and retail, among others, and in several direct and fund investments in sectors such as food and beverage, energy, logistics, transportation, consumer, retail, and telecommunications. Christian has experience in investment banking, management consulting, public policy and venture capital. Prior to joining Investar, Christian was Director for the Mexican Department of Energy. He also worked at the investment bank ProtegoEvercore, British venture capital, WorldCap, and management consulting firm Mckinsey & Co. Christian holds an MBA from Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and graduated from ITAM University in Mexico with a BA in Economics specialized in Finance.
David joined Investar in early 2012 to shape Investar Private Equity. He leads the direct equity Investment efforts, is a member of the Investment Committee and has served in the Executive Committee of portfolio companies. With 20 years of professional investment experience David has a strong expertise in Private Equity and Investment Banking. Prior to Investar, he worked as Investment Director at Realza Capital and at Catalana de Iniciativas, two Spanish Private Equity Buy-Out Funds focused on the small end of the mid-market. He was responsible for the origination, execution and monitoring of investments through the Board of Directors of portfolio companies as well as for the international institutional investors fundraising. Previously, he worked as an Investment Banking M&A Associate in Salomon Brothers in London, as a senior investment analyst for Netjuice Capital and as an equity research analyst at Banco Santander de Negocios. David holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University as an ICO and Fulbright scholar and graduated class valedictorian in Business Administration from Universidad Complutense de Madrid
Javier Larraza is a member of Investar Capital Investment Committee and senior advisor to the Fund. Javier is Managing Director at Investar Financial Corporation and is responsible for Investar’s Venture Capital businesses since 2007. Prior to Investar, he served as Vice-Chairman and CFO for COMPUSA from 2000 to 2006, and was also a Managing Director at INBURSA. Javier holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an MBA from The University of Chicago.
Adrian is a Senior Associate at Investar Capital. He has been with the firm since 2015 and his responsibilities include identifying and evaluating private equity investment opportunities, performing transaction due diligence, and monitoring portfolio investments. Prior to joining Investar, Adrian was an Analyst at Alta Growth Capital, a Private Equity Fund focused on the middle Mexican market. Adrian graduated with honors from Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey where he earned a B.S. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
Fernanda is a Senior Associate at Investar Capital. She has been with the firm since 2015 and her responsibilities include identifying and evaluating private equity investment opportunities, performing transaction due diligence, and monitoring portfolio investments. Prior to joining Investar, Fernanda was an Analyst at L Capital, a pan European Private Equity Fund sponsored by LVMH. Fernanda also worked as an Analyst at Azora, an investment management firm with $3.0B under management, and Deutsche Bank. Fernanda holds a double Bachelor degree in Administration and Law from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas ICADE, where she graduated with honors.
Sam is a Senior Associate at Investar Capital. He has been with the firm since 2017 and his responsibilities include identifying and evaluating private equity investment opportunities, performing transaction due diligence, and monitoring portfolio investments. Prior to joining Investar, Sam was an Investment Banking Analyst at William Blair & Company. Sam also worked as an Analyst at Bank of America. Sam graduated from Southern Methodist University where he earned a B.B.A. in Finance and a B.S. in Economics with Financial Applications.
Catalina is a Senior Associate at Investar Capital. She has been with the firm since 2016 and her responsibilities include identifying and evaluating private equity investment opportunities, performing transaction due diligence, and monitoring portfolio investments. Catalina graduated with honors from Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, where she earned a B.A. degree in Economics. She holds a Certificate in Applied Economics from Southern Methodist University.
Controller and Treasurer
Jose Luis is Controller and Treasurer at Investar Capital. He has been with the firm since 2003 and has over 20 years of Finance and Treasury experience. He is responsible for overseeing the financial activities of the entire Group, including planning, reporting and monitoring cash flow, as well as general Fund administration. Prior to joining Investar, he was responsible for the Administration and Treasury of Maxistransfers Corporation, one of Investar’s Ventures, until he began working with Alberto Martin- Soberon on the formation, administration and Treasury of Investar Financial Corporation. Prior to Investar Group, he worked as a Currency Foreign Exchange Trader for Banco Nacional de Mexico executing trades and managing the treasury position and bank exposure from 1995 to 2001. Jose Luis holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration from Universidad Anahuac.
